High-Voltage Connectivity

COEUR Socket Technology

To address the diverse engineering requirements for high-voltage, high-current connectors, product design engineers seek versatile design solutions that support a wide range of power applications. Molex interconnect solutions incorporating COEUR socket technology support reliable and efficient connectivity while complying with rigorous safety standards. These advanced connector designs are key to overcoming tough challenges in high-current, high-performance applications.

Overview

A growing diversity of devices including data center servers, EV charging stations and home energy storage systems require high-current and high-voltage connectors. Yet the physical space within these devices remains limited, and these connectors must effectively mitigate contact resistance, voltage drop and thermal effects.

To meet requirements for safe, high-voltage transfer, Molex offers a comprehensive portfolio of connectors that feature COEUR socket technology. These sockets incorporate advanced design features to minimize contact resistance and improve current-carrying capacity without producing excessive heat. This is achieved through careful engineering and material selection to maximize the overall efficiency of the connection.

COEUR sockets include Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) to keep the connection securely in place. This feature is especially important in environments where connectors are subject to vibrations or other mechanical stresses. The multi-pin attachment remains intact and reliable over time.

Molex connectors with COEUR sockets are also designed to withstand various environmental conditions, making them suitable for outdoor use or in harsh industrial environments. They comply with industry standards, including EIA-364 which assesses criteria such as mating and un-mating force, humidity resistance, durability and thermal cycling.

COEUR sockets can be used in a range of applications — from data center and consumer electronics to energy and industrial — and can easily integrate into different systems and platforms.

Features and Benefits

Low Contact Resistance

COEUR socket technology employs a stamped and shaped conical socket with angled contact beams. These beams maximize the number of contact points around the radial axis of the mating pin. The mating zones of each contact beam provide greater conductive surface area, which results in reduced contact resistance and lower voltage drop. This design minimizes heat generation and allows for high current-carrying capacity.

Compact Design

COEUR sockets are designed to maintain the same overall height regardless of pin size, even as current rating increases. These versatile solutions support high-density applications, ideal for electronic devices where space is at a premium. Their compact design occupies a small footprint while still delivering against demanding performance requirements.

Design Flexibility and Customization

COEUR sockets can be packaged in a wide range of connector configurations and pin sizes, creating interconnects optimized for customer-specific applications on printed circuit boards, busbars and cable assemblies. COEUR sockets are available in four different pin sizes: 3.40mm, 6.00mm, 8.00mm and 11.00mm and are capable of handling up to 1,000V and 350.0A.
