Features and Benefits
In order to achieve ADAS functionality, a car generally requires more than 5 radars and 6 cameras. In fact, cameras are the most important detecting sensors for ADAS applications. Molex Automotive Camera Backshell Assemblies provide a complete solution that includes the connectors with a FAKRA interface and backshell assembly.
Automotive OEMs will need a fast and effective way to install the additional cameras in next-gen car designs without increasing manufacturing time. Molex Camera Backshell Assemblies provide easy implementation with SMT Jacks with FAKRA interfaces.
To support ADAS applications, cameras will need to be located where they can detect objects outside vehicles. As a result, they will be subject to water spray and dust. Molex Cameral Backshell Assemblies are designed with IPX7 and IPX9K classes to help prevent dust and water ingress.

Frequently Asked Questions
What new components is Molex adding to its Automotive Camera Backshell Assembly Solutions?
Molex will soon launch 2 new connectors to be used with existing Automotive Camera Backshell Assemblies:
- Camera I/O Floating Jack Connectors
- Camera I/O Floating Bullet Connectors
What advantages will the Floating Jack and Bullet connectors offer?
- The floating range and tolerance allowance will enable multiple connectors to be used or stacked onto the PCB to which the jack is soldered. This design will reduce the need for rework if fixed-range alternatives do not provide the “optimal” fit for a particular customer application.
- The floating range design will improve the overall assembly reliability. This is because a reduced compression force will be necessary for mating, decreasing the risk of solder cracks on the mounted Jack connector.
- These products are designed to USCAR, LV214 and GB/T 20864 to be more vibration resistant.
- These floating jack and bullet connectors will be automation-assembly friendly.
