Overview
To achieve ubiquitous connectivity, a variety of solutions must be integrated into a cohesive system. Different types of antennas can provide high-speed connectivity across a range of environments and can communicate with the network and infrastructure to enhance safety and improve the user experience. These antennas can also provide greater awareness of the vehicle’s surroundings, helping enable advanced driver assist systems (ADAS).
The current Molex product portfolio of Smart Antenna Solutions offers a combination of technologies. Available solutions include cellular high-precision positioning, local connectivity and shark fin multiple-component antenna packages. Hidden and conformal antennas can blend into the body to enable uncluttered aesthetics. Customized antennas are designed to precisely fit design and manufacturing needs.
V2X: Vehicle-to-Everything Communication
- Sensors and antennas enable communication between the vehicle and the surrounding environment, including the network and other vehicles
- Integrated sensors permit a better awareness of the vehicle’s surroundings for improved safety
- V2X helps improve the user experience through communication with entertainment, communication and navigation systems
Satellite Communication
- Non-terrestrial network (NTN) coverage using satellites enables network connectivity in rural or remote areas where gaps in terrestrial networks exist
- Long-range broadband connectivity using NTN-NR (New Radio) provides enhanced data rates
- Beamforming and beam steering antennas controlled through a steering loop correct for high shift and high variation rates
5G Millimeter Wave
- High-speed, medium-range broadband connectivity is capable of high performance in high-density areas of heavy network use
- Offers speeds 4 to 5 times faster than traditional cellular networks, improving performance and network utilization
- Precisely aligned antennas using phased arrays and digitally controlled beamforming and steering help optimize connectivity
