Types of USB Connectors

USB Type-C Connectors

Using the latest USB technology, USB Type-C Connectors provide solutions for applications requiring fast data transfer, charging and video outputs. These connectors are reversible, support standards from USB 2.0 to 4.0 and deliver speeds up to 80Gbps. With power delivery as much as 240W, USB Type-C Connectors are ideal for applications such as smartphones, laptops, tablets and gaming consoles.

USB Type-A Connectors

USB Type-A Connectors, widely used for various devices, feature a flat, rectangular interface and are keyed to plug in only one direction for proper orientation. Standards include USB 2.0 with transfer speeds up to 5Gbps. Applications for these connectors include computers, external storage devices, gaming systems, laptops and peripherals.

Micro USB Connectors

Micro USB Connectors, smaller than Mini USB Connectors, come in two versions—Micro B and Micro AB receptacles—and are keyed to help prevent mismating and ensure reliable electrical connections. Micro B receptacles mate only with Micro B plugs (commonly used for peripheral devices in networking applications, passively responding to commands from the primary device). Micro AB versions can mate with Micro A plugs (commonly used as host devices in networking applications initiating communications and commands in the device) or Micro B plugs. These connectors are found mainly in digital cameras, legacy smartphones and portable hard drives applications.

USB Type-B Connectors

Commonly found in printers and digital cameras, Molex USB Type-B Connectors are mechanically keyed, ensuring the correct components match for reliable connections. This helps prevent mismating and avoids end-product failure. With data transfers up to 5Gbps, these connectors are also ideal for scanners and external hard drives.

Mini USB Connectors

Designed for applications too small to accommodate USB Type-A Connectors, Mini USB Connectors are frequently found in MP3 players, digital cameras and legacy smartphone products. These connectors are T-shaped to avoid connecting components into the wrong port, which leads to connector damage and electrical failure. For improved safety and reliability, Mini USB Connectors are an exceptional choice.
